I’ve Been Gaining More Fat Over the Years. Why?
Question: I’ve been gaining more fat over the years. Why?
Shane’s answer:
Gaining weight is not an inevitable part of aging. There are reasons behind it, and one that is often overlooked is prescription drugs – specifically those used to treat high blood pressure (beta blockers like Atenolol), depression (SSRI’s such as Zyprexa), and diabetes (sulfonylureas like Amaryl and thiazolidinediones such as Avandia).
When swallowed, they can stifle the actions of our metabolic sparks known technically as catecholamines. When active, these compounds are produced by the adrenal glands and trigger fat metabolism. But when we use “drugs as vitamins” they can cause us to gain fat pretty quickly. This is true despite rigorous workout or diet routines that may be employed.
