Question: Is it safe for women to use Rogaine? Also, will it benefit me at all if my hair loss is not as bad as shown in the pictures on the box?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

Yes. Topical Rogaine (2 percent twice a day) is safe for adult women as long as they are not pregnant or trying to become pregnant. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved the 5 percent topical Rogaine formula for women.

The effectiveness varies from one person to another, but women respond better than men to this lower dose of Rogaine. Remember that the cause of the hair loss should be the focus of your treatment.  Hair loss from excessive levels of the male hormone testosterone (androgenic alopecia) destroys air follicles, and women respond very well the earlier they begin treatment for this condition.

Keep in mind, this medication will not regrow hair that has been lost by trauma, inappropriate hair grooming, stress, illness, thyroid deficiency, vitamin deficiency, chemotherapy, or dietary deficiency.
