The hepatitis C virus can cause liver failure and other diseases like cancer and cirrhosis. It can cause inflammation of the liver, which affects liver functioning. This virus is also the leading cause of liver cancer. The HCV is also called a silent killer as the virus can stay dormant for years before symptoms appear. The virus can spread through infected blood.

HCV treatment depends on the genotype of the infecting virus. Various HCV treatment options have been in use for an HCV cure. HCV treatment involves administering interferon in the form of injections and ribavirin in the form of pills. Interferon can have side effects like anemia, hair loss, depression, reduced appetite, and fatigue. Due to the side effects and nearly yearlong time required by the treatment, new treatment methods have been under development.

Various new hepatitis C drugs are becoming available that are effective as HCV treatment options. A number of new drugs for HCV cure are being developed through the clinical trials. The new hepatitis C drugs may cost more than the older drugs but they eliminate the side effects caused by older HCV treatment methods.

The new hepatitis C treatment involving new hepatitis C drugs can be used in combination with the older interferon and ribavirin HCV cure options. This new HCV treatment should remove the side effects of interferon and ribavirin. New drugs like telaprevir and boceprevir are likely to be used along with the older drugs in the future.

Sovaldi is among the new hepatitis C drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration in December 2013. It is a pill found to be effective to cure the hepatitis C virus. Sovaldi has high success rate for HCV cure. Olysio is also a new drug approved by FDA that eliminates the side effects caused by interferon. It is used in combination with the two older drugs. These drugs can be taken as daily pills. These new hepatitis C drugs are to be used along with the older options.

The new hepatitis C treatment options are effective, simpler, and quicker than traditional HCV treatment options. They also reduce the side effects of the previous HCV treatment. The new hepatitis C cure is free from interferon and is effective to cure all strains of the virus. New hepatitis C drugs are beneficial and act more rapidly to fight the virus. The new hepatitis C drug Sovaldi has made the HCV treatment process so quick and efficient that nearly 90 percent of the patients suffering from the virus could be treated in only 12 weeks. This is much quicker than the earlier treatment, which required around one year for HCV treatment to be effective.

Side effects of using Olysio, in combination with the other two older drugs, include nausea, sensitivity to light, and itching. Other new drugs may also cause some side effects like nausea or vomiting. These are the common side effects and some severe cases of light sensitivity may require hospitalization. Limiting exposure to the sun and using sun protective measures are some ways of preventing the side effects.
