We've been told all of our lives to drink eight glasses of water every day. But a report published in the British Medical Journal says that it's not good for you and may be harmful.

British physician Margaret McCartney told the Daily Mail that the advice to drink six to eight glasses of water every day is "not only nonsense, but thoroughly debunked nonsense."

The British experts say that the danger of dehydration is a myth and that drinking water when you're not thirsty can interfere with concentration as well as prevent you from getting a good night's sleep because of countless trips to the bathroom.

Too much water can even lead to hyponatremia, a potentially fatal condition when levels of salt in the body drop and the brain swells.
