Sure, the holidays can be a blast. There’s lots of food and drink and good cheer. But all that fun can turn into a drag the morning after. That fourth glass of cabernet has left you with a throbbing head, the cheesecake is still parked in your belly, and you’re dreading the Visa bill due early next year. Here’s how to deal with this anything-but-merry state.

1. Feed a hangover

This is the time of year when people offer up hangover cures. But medical experts tell us there is no known cure because exactly how drinking too much alcohol causes a hangover is unclear. But, you can treat some of the symptoms. Some people swear by the bacon sandwich, (although with its cholesterol content, you wouldn’t want to eat it regularly). High-in-carbs bread boosts blood-sugar levels and speeds up metabolism, helping the body quickly rid itself of alcohol, researcher Elin Roberts tells The Times. “Binging on alcohol depletes brain neurotransmitters but bacon, which is rich in protein, contains amino acids that top these up and make you feel better.”
