We love summer but it can be tough on our vulnerable skin. Bugs bite leaving skin stinging and itchy. The sun burns making us feel overheated and giving us fire-red skin painful to the touch. The chlorine in pools is drying and can wreak havoc on our delicate hair as well as our skin.

Don’t let such skin discomforts dampen your summer days. Easy remedies are as close as your kitchen cabinet and local drug store. Consider these mostly natural soothers for your summer-weary skin.

honey, skin, moisturizer, humectant

1. Honey

Swimming is a favorite summer activity, but the ocean’s salt and pool water chlorine can leave your skin thirsting for a good moisturizer. To really hydrate dry skin, add a pea-size amount of 100 percent pure honey to your regular moisturizer, recommends Family Circle magazine. Honey acts as a humectant, helping your skin absorb moisture. You can also buy a moisturizer that includes honey as a main ingredient. Moisturizers that list glycerin as a first ingredient also are a good bet because it also helps your skin hold moisture.
