Can’t bear the thought of another peanut butter sandwich? Are you turned off by tuna? If you’re tired of the same old lunches, try something new. Tuna can become pretty terrific with the easy addition of an herb or apple chunks, and egg salad takes on a whole new taste when you toss in scallions and Dijon mustard.
With the addition of a few varied ingredients, your lunch can become a meal to look forward to and savor.
1. Another butter
Looking to change up your usual peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Give natural peanut butter a try. It usually contains only peanuts and salt — no dangerous trans fats that are added to regular peanut butter to prevent separation. Or give almond butter a try. Its texture is less creamy than peanut butter’s, but almond butter is low in saturated fats, has no cholesterol, is high in protein, and helps regulate blood-sugar levels. Plus, it has a richer, deeper flavor than peanut butter.
Another change: Skip the grape jelly and have your sandwich with strawberry or blueberry preserves, honey, or sliced banana.
