Getting help for someone who can no longer care for themselves is no easy task. First, it must be decided exactly what they need help doing, then, what type of care is best. Is basic household help all you need? Or is daily assistance with personal care critical for your loved one’s safety at home? And what kind of care should you choose? Do you want to work with an agency or independent provider? Here are some things to consider before you and your loved one make your choices.
1. Determine needs
The needs of the person requiring care depend on their general health, finances, and support. Perhaps it’s simply finding someone to take care of household chores, like small repair jobs, housekeeping, or shopping. Or maybe your loved one can’t dress or bathe themselves anymore. Carefully assessing their needs will help you find the assistance that allows them to stay safe in their home.
