If traveling is on your itinerary in the near future, there are things you need to know about staying healthy on the road. And if your plans include an international trip, there are precautions to consider taking, from getting vaccinations to knowing the health conditions of your destination. Whether you’re driving across the state or flying across the globe, here are some things you should know to ensure your health and well-being during and after your trip.

1. Pack a healthy travel kit

Time away doesn’t guarantee a holiday from all ailments. Have the essentials on hand to combat everything from a headache, diarrhea, and constipation, to sunburn, upset stomach, and insect bites. Your kit should include: pain relievers, bandages and antibiotic cream, an antacid, mild laxative, antidiarrheal medication, anti-motion sickness medication, insect repellant, sunscreen, and any medicine you regularly take. Don’t forget to tuck in your emergency contact information, as well as water purification tablets if you’re traveling near a questionable water source.
