Question: I am a 54-year-old woman and my skin is extremely dry. The skin on my face is soft but has been really showing wrinkles in the last three to five months. My eyes are very puffy and dark underneath and in the corners. Also, I have hepititis C and osteoporosis. What is the best thing for me to do, and are there supplements I can take?

Dr. Beer's answer: Osteoporosis predisposes you to bone loss in the face as well as other parts of the body. As this happens, the scaffolding for the skin and soft tissue disappears.

To help re-suspend this, fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm may be used in the areas around the eyes. Some risks associated with this include bruising, lump, bumps, and more serious issues, so speak with your doctor beforehand.

For treating the dark areas topically, I like my skin brightening serum (available at scientificskin.com) or Retin A. Vitamin C may also help to lighten and is worth a try.
