Are Water Ionizers Worth The Cost?

Question: I have been researching water ionizers and Kangen water. I have found no health negatives, and some machines give better quality of water than others. The good ones are somewhat expensive, but durable for long-time use. If this is so good for your health, why doesn’t mainstream medicine advise this new water to preserve good health?

Dr. Hibberd's Answer:

Water is water. There are differing sources, and differing flavors depending upon the mineral content, just avoid the ones that may be contaminated with pesticides and chemicals. Ionized water offers no health advantage despite their claims. The nonsense they market about detoxifying your body is total rot.

Fluoridated water, which you get from tap water, is clearly beneficial to our children's dental health. While I agree that water quality varies in different parts of the USA, generally the US water supply is excellent and is certainly safe for consumption.

Tap water is now recognized by emergency physicians to be as safe as using sterile water for repair of skin wounds. How is that for comment on the sterility of our water supply in general? There are no health benefits recognized by consuming bottled "pure" waters, only taste preferences.

Be cautious of water softeners that add huge amounts of sodium. If taste is an issue, a simple charcoal filter is just as effective at removing most deposits from your drinking water. Remember, these bottled waters are packed in plastic bottles that we know are unhealthy, especially when exposed to heat. Glass containers are best for drinking water, yet recycling them potentially exposes us to retained deposits. Now that lead has been removed from our water supply lines in most areas of the USA, I give our domestic water supply thumbs up.

For those of you who like to use bottled water because it "tastes" better, go right ahead, but do not fool yourself that it is any healthier to consume than domestic water from your kitchen tap!
