Question: I just came home from an angioplasty. I have 10 stents in my heart, and I was told that my left artery is 100 percent closed. They said that they would not do a bypass because of the risk, and that nothing can be done. Should I seek another opinion?

Dr. Hibberd's Answer:

A surgical bypass is the only option when there is 100 percent blockage in your artery. Your doctor has told you that the procedure would be risky. He must have analyzed all aspects of your condition before informing you of his decision. However, there is no harm in seeking a second opinion with another cardiologist. Please make sure that you take all your previous medical records with you so that he can offer you the correct treatment option/opinion.
