Question: Both my husband and I have been diagnosed with hepatitis C. We have been to the gastroenterologist, but we don’t feel that he is that knowledgeable treating this disease. We don’t believe in using interferon, since we have spoken to a lot of people who felt it made them worse.

Dr. Hibberd's Answer:

I'm afraid you need to get a second opinion and a thorough re-evaluation of your hepatitis C status. This is a terrible condition for some victims, and treating with just interferon was abandoned long ago. Some victims’ disease advances to significant cirrhosis and liver failure. You need individualized guidance without delay. I recommend you see a gastroenterologist with an interest in hepatitis C at once. You may indeed be saving your own life!
