Question: Is there a supplement that will deal with erectile dysfunction?

Dr. Hibberd's Answer:

Erectile dysfunction (ED), needs specific diagnosis to be managed correctly. If you have ED, be sure you have no vascular disease that could be asymptomatic other than your ED.

There are no non-prescription supplements I routinely recommend, although there are many prescription medications that are very effective, including Cialis, Viagra, and Levitra. Still, there are safety issues that need to be considered and discussed with your doctor before they are prescribed ... precisely why you need a doctor's prescription to obtain them.

If you have ED, be sure to be evaluated for signs of vascular disease, have an EKG and maybe even consider a supervised stress cardiac evaluation if there are any doubts. While much less common, disorders of nerves and spinal cord may also cause ED, and they are routinely screened for during an ED evaluation.
