Question: Suddenly, my ankles swell constantly. When I walk on the treadmill, the swelling disappears. My blood pressure is always between 125/80 to 135/80. Should I get it checked out?

Dr. Hibberd's Answer:

Get this checked out to be on the safe side. Although swelling of feet or ankles that disappears with exercise is most often related to venous pooling, you should be evaluated for underlying conditions since the swelling is new.

Veins serve as the conduit for returning blood to the heart. Some medical conditions (heart failure, lung disease, clotting disorders, kidney disease) affect the volume of fluid retained, and these conditions are the reason you should seek medical evaluation.
