Question: Occasionally it feels like my heart skips a beat. I’m a man of 78 and have had this problem for at least 40 years. Is this something I need to be concerned about?

Dr. Hibberd's Answer:

Since you have had this problem without any concerns, there is no need to worry now. Occasional skipped beats are usually nothing serious, and you may be able to prevent them by avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and stress. However, it might be a good idea to take and EKG to be sure that nothing has changed to cause the skipped beat. You can make an appointment with your healthcare professional for this test.
