Question: I tried your asthma remedy of a quarter teaspoon of unrefined salt in a glass of water. It works better than a puffer! Do you have any other suggestions for asthma?

Dr. Brownstein's Answer:

I also have asthma, and I have experienced the same effects with salt and water that you have experienced. Unrefined salt contains more than 80 minerals, while refined salt has no minerals in it. Unrefined salt should be the salt of choice for all of us.

The combination of salt, water, and iodine is the best mucolytic (mucus break-up) protocol known to mankind. At the first sign of wheezing, I suggest dissolving a quarter teaspoon of unrefined salt in eight ounces of water and drinking it down.

A recommended source for mineral-rich, unrefined salt is the Celtic Sea Salt brand; for more on their products, click here.

Also, supplementing with iodine can further help break up mucus plugs and clear the airways. Generally, doses of iodine vary between 6-50 mg/day. More may be necessary in times of an asthma attack.
