Question: I have hypothyroidism but was told years ago that I had an allergy to iodine. Will consuming iodine in foods or iodine tablets cause an allergic reaction?

Dr. Brownstein's Answer:

Most likely, you have an allergy to radioactive iodine. That does not mean that you have an allergy to inorganic, non-radioactive iodine. The inorganic, non-radioactive iodine is the iodine that I recommend.

An allergy to inorganic iodine is very rare. For the best results with iodine therapy, work with a healthcare practitioner who is knowledgeable about iodine.
