Question: I have been on thyroid medication for about 10 years and would like to get off it with natural supplements. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease after the birth of my third child. I have never really felt the same since. Is there a book on how much iodine to take, and where to get it?

Dr. Brownstein's Answer:

Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune, inflammatory problem of the thyroid gland. I explain more about this in my books, "Overcoming Thyroid Disorders, 2nd Edition" and "Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It, 4th Edition."

Hashimoto’s forms from low iodine coupled with nutritional imbalances. The treatment of Hashimoto’s involves nutrient therapies, including iodine, vitamin C, magnesium, B vitamins, and selenium.

The best results will be achieved by working with a holistic healthcare provider knowledgeable about iodine. I suggest going to www.acam.org to find a doctor near you. The first step in the treatment plan is to have your iodine levels checked.
