As we learn more about COPD, the more we realize that a dietary and supplement program should slow the deterioration of the disease and possibly promote some healing.

When the lungs are working poorly, it is harder to breathe. This burns up a lot of energy, so one of the most important steps is to increase energy supply to the respiratory muscles.

These supplements are known to improve the energy supply to muscles and to lung tissues (You can learn even more about the benefits of supplements by reading my special report "Key Vitamins That Save Your Heart, Prevent Cancer and Keep You Living Long."):

• Acetyl-L-carnitine

• R-alpha-lipoic acid

• CoQ10 (ubiquinol)

• Vitamin K

• Niacinamide

• Thiamine

• Riboflavin-5 phosphate (functional form of riboflavin)

• Pyruvate

• Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin—the functional form of B12).

• Folinic acid (functional form of folate)

Reducing inflammation in the lungs and bronchioles is absolutely vital. The following nutrients are the most powerful and have the highest safety profile:

• Curcumin

• Quercetin

• Resveratrol

• EGCG (Epigallocatechin galate is extracted from green tea.)

• DHA (A component of omega-3 oils extracted from algae)

• Borage oil

• NAC (N-acetyl-L-cysteine)

• Vitamin C (as calcium or magnesium ascorbate)

• Vitamin E (as mixed tocopherols

• Vitamin D3

• Grape seed extract

• Probiotics

• Magnesium citrate/malate

In addition to these special nutrients, take a well-compounded multivitamin/mineral.

The diet for pulmonary disorders should include fruits from which energy can be obtained. Fruits contain a variety of carotenoids, vitamin C, quercetin, and a number of other anti-inflammatory compounds.

Vegetables high in nutrients are also essential, and are best absorbed if blenderized. The blenderized mix should include celery, brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, and cilantro. Strong, white tea three times a day will also significantly reduce inflammation.

Avoid all glutamate additives, including MSG, hydrolyzed proteins, caseinate, carrageenan, soy protein and soy protein isolates, natural flavoring, broth, stock, and autolyzed yeast. Do not use aspartame or other artificial sweeteners.

Avoid all fluoridated water and all products containing fluoride. My special report "Why Fluoride is Toxic" will give you all the details on why all forms of fluoride are bad for you. Also, avoid all omega-6 oils, such as corn, safflower, sunflower, peanut, soybean, and canola oils. "Omega 3: Nature’s Miracle Panacea" explains how omega-3 oils improve your health.

The success of any program depends on dedication and willpower. This nutritional program works best when strictly adhered to since these nutrients interact to improve health.
