Question: Could radiation treatment for a neck tumor cause leg weakness?

Dr. Blaylock’s Answer:

One of the most common problems in patients who had radiation treatments on or near the spine is delayed radiation necrosis of the spinal cord. This can occur months to even as long as a year following radiation treatments.

Radiation triggers a chronic state of inflammation in the spinal cord, which can lead to slow degeneration. Curcumin, resveratrol, quercetin, melatonin, mixed tocopherols, tocotrienols, and hesperidin have all been shown to protect against such radiation damage to normal tissues.

These nutraceuticals have powerful anticancer effects as well. They work best if started before the radiation treatment is begun, but should help even after treatment.

A high-dose B vitamin combination, such as niacinamide and high-dose CoQ10, will stimulate healing. Other known treatments for radiation damage include acetyl-L-carnitine and R-lipoic acid.
