Question: Does calcium citrate help with sleep? It seems to help me. I tried melatonin, but it did not work.

Dr. Blaylock's Answer:

Yes, calcium is a good sleep aid. I generally recommend that people take their calcium supplements at bedtime to aid in sleep. Magnesium also aids sleep and can be taken with the calcium. Chamomile tea or extract will help sleep as well and can be taken with the calcium/magnesium.

For some people, melatonin does not work, but this may be related to the dose or purity of the product.

I have had a number of people report that taking two ibuprofen tablets at bedtime also improves sleep. But be careful — it can cause gastric irritation. Taking DGL (licorice) with the ibuprofen can often prevent stomach upset.

Make sure the room is completely dark. In addition, avoid exercising after 6 p.m., and avoid intense intellectual activity two hours before bedtime.
