Last week's tip gave you five guidelines to follow in your battle to avoid becoming frail in your golden years. Since inflammation is at the root of many of the debilitating diseases of aging, making a special effort to fill your diet with foods rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients can help you avoid mind-robbing disease such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease, as well as keep your other organs and bones in tip-top shape. For a detailed discussion on inflammation and its role in many diseases, see my newsletter "Inflammation: The Real Cause of Most Diseases."

Below is a list of special supplements that contain powerful antioxidants and other nutrients that help your body heal itself as it ages and keep you from becoming frail:

Curcumin/quercetin. I have combined these because they are best absorbed when mixed with extra-virgin olive oil. Both nutrients have powerful anticancer effects.

R-lipoic acid. This natural compound is one of the most powerful antioxidants, and it stimulates cellular energy production, prevents iron toxicity, and dramatically improves the body’s utilization of sugar. R-lipoic acid also improves both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Acetyl-L carnitine. This amino acid dramatically improves mitochondrial function, prevents iron toxicity, protects the brain and heart, and reduces inflammation.

Resveratrol. The only product known to extend lifespan, resveratrol is extracted from the skins of grapes. It also reduces brain inflammation and protects many organs.

Silymarin. An extract of the milk thistle plant, silymarin has been shown to powerfully prevent prostate cancer and to be very protective against brain inflammation.

Methylcobalamin/folate and pyridoxal-5 phosphate. This combination plays a major role in DNA repair, brain function, and nerve protection. It also reduces the risk of several forms of cancer, including cervical.

Grape extract (grape pip). Grape seeds contain a number of proanthocyanidins, which are powerful antioxidants that protect the brain and strengthen blood vessels.

EGCG. A concentrated form of the most active component of green tea, EGCG reduces inflammation and strengthens tissues and blood vessels. To learn more about the many ways green tea can improve your health, read my report "Miracle Tea."

L-Carnosine. This amino acid protects the brain and heart and reduces inflammation.

Pycnogenol. This nutrient protects the brain, reduces inflammation, strengthens tissues (especially blood vessels), and improves erectile function.

Vitamin D-3. The functional form of vitamin D, vitamin D-3 has been shown to have powerful cancer prevention benefits. It reduces tumor growth; inhibits bacteria, viruses, and fungi; moderates the immune system; and protects the brain. To learn more about this amazing vitamin, read my special report "Vitamin D's Hidden Role in Your Health."

Magnesium citrate/malate. Magnesium reduces inflammation, increases cell glutathione, and blocks excitotoxicity.

Tyrosine/Iodine. Tyrosine is an amino acid needed to form thyroid hormone. It is also the precursor of several brain neurotransmitters (such as dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine), which play a role in elevating mood and increasing resistance to stress.

You can learn even more about the benefits of supplements by reading my special report "Key Vitamins That Save Your Heart, Prevent Cancer and Keep You Living Long."
