Question: Do I need to get a SPECT scan to enhance my brain performance?

Dr. Amen's Answer:

You don't need a SPECT scan to optimize your brain health, and you don't need one in order to benefit from this newsletter. The purpose of this newsletter is not to encourage you to go out and have your brain scanned. In fact, if you go to a doctor who has little familiarity with SPECT imaging, he or she may not have the experience necessary to interpret the results of your scan accurately.

After reviewing nearly 50,000 brain scans, I've learned that enhancing your brain health can be as easy as making some simple lifestyle changes. In my 25 years of clinical practice, I've helped thousands of patients make these changes to improve their brain function and to live a better, more fulfilling life.

I've made some of these changes in my own life, too. When I first started imaging the brain, I scanned my own brain. At age 37, my brain didn't look very healthy. It turns out I had a lot of bad brain habits. I worked all the time, slept just four or five hours a night, ate junk food, lived on diet soda, and didn't get much exercise. By eating a more nutritious diet, getting more sleep, and exercising more, I improved my brain function. In fact, I got scanned again at age 52, and my brain looked younger than it did at age 37.

I will be sharing many of these same brain-based "prescriptions" with you so you can optimize your brain function to be more effective in your everyday life. It worked for me, it has worked for my patients, and it can work for you.
