Question: Will fish oil supplements help with an enlarged prostate? How about saw palmetto?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

Fish oil supplements are not known to help enlarged prostates in my experience. Some patients have reported improvement in urinary flow with saw palmetto use, but this is not standardized, and I prefer to use conventional medications by prescription to improve large prostates and improve restricted flow.

Enlarged prostates should be evaluated for size and consistency to be sure they are not infected or cancerous. The medications I use are alpha blockers and 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors that are very effective and safe when used as directed by your physician.
