Don't Panic Over Flu Outbreak

The flu is back in the news in a big way. Hundreds of people are in hospitals, lines are forming to get the flu vaccine... Is there another impending epidemic? What should we know and what should we do to prevent not only the flu but the mass fear it spreads?

For starters, we need to ask, if the flu shot works why are so many people getting the flu?

As we line up to get the flu shot let's take notice of the fact that unless we have compromised immune systems, are frail and aged, suffer with chronic illnesses or asthma, we should focus more on sleep, eating well, exercising, dealing with stress, and washing our hands as primary preventive measures, rather than expecting the flu vaccine to protect us.

In the face of all the bad news about the flu season, DO NOT PANIC! Panic makes you sick and only helps the broken healthcare system that makes money from the flu shots and the drugs. You want to take care of yourself and your family, not enrich the bottom line of drug companies.

Use the threat of the flu as an opportunity to transcend fear and intimidation. It's a perfect time to take control of your health.

You are stronger and smarter than the flu virus and your actions determine your outcome. Take care of yourself and see how much easier it is to be healthy.

Eat right. Eat vegetables and fruit and protein of fish and vegetable source. Limit the amount of processed foods and drink water not soda.

Sleep 8 hours every night no matter how ludicrous it seems. Limit alcohol and caffeine intake no matter how difficult for now. Exercise but don't overdo it. More is not better. Moderation works best. Above all, please do not smoke!!!

Try some vitamin C (5000 mg/day) and probiotics. They help boost your immune system and may protect from the flu without the negative side effects of drugs that do not work.

If you really want to take care of yourself and prevent the flu, make these little sacrifices just until this flu season passes and you will have nothing but limitless health to look forward to.

If someone in your house has the flu stay away from them and don't share glasses, towels or other personal hygiene stuff.

At work stay away from sick people who don't stay home and keep windows open.
