Question: Can I take Garcina Cambogia extract for weight loss if I am taking daily doses of simvastatin and Zetia for my cholesterol? I am concerned about the impacts my the liver and I do not want to over tax it.

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

Garcia Cambogia is tamarind. This is a food supplement usually used in curries and chutneys. It is also used to preserve fish products. This may reduce your LDL cholesterol production in your liver, so review the dosing you use with your doctor.

Liver interactions are possible in some people, depending upon the dosing of tamarind you are using, especially when you are using cholesterol-lowering medications.
