Question: I’m a woman who is 71 and every once in a while my hands shake uncontrollably. It is very embarrassing when I’m in public. Is there anything that can be done?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:

Familial tremor can occur at any age, but is usually seen earlier in life. Some foods, medications, and stress may predispose us to tremor, as will sleep deprivation.

Try eliminating alcohol and additives to start. See your doctor for an evaluation, so as we know this is a variant of normal tremor, as opposed to a tremor caused by medications or a degenerative disease, such as Parkinson’s, hyperthyroidism, or other treatable disorders
